Introduction

The name of this beer comes from the date in which it was created, and an ancient king who was associated with said date. On October 6, 2013, brewers from Dunham and Kissmeyer came together to birth this beer. When deciding on a name, Anders Kissmeyer suggested the name Broderus based on a famous Viking king and the fact that October 6th is Broderus day in Denmark. Anders had previously worked with pomegranate syrup in a collaboration in Lebanon, and quite enjoyed the effect that it had on the pale ale brewed there. So together, Dunham and Kissmeyer decided to introduce the pomegranate syrup, as well as some good Canadian maple syrup, during fermentation. The spice here comes from these two special treats added into the beer which is not your typical ‘Christmas’ beer. The use of brettanomyces adds additional complexity to the beer.

How it looks

Pour a medium liquid caramel with huge, frothy head and wonderful lacing.

How it smells

Spice dominates with some mild pomegranate fruit and some sweetness following. Peppery, funky yeast with touches of lemon and a hint of the maple syrup.

How it tastes

A light body with a bright effervescence and a dry finish.

Recommended food pairing

The sweet notes of this beer pair well with acidic foods to offer a nice contrast. Try it as your appetizer course with pickled vegetables.
