Profile
Field & Forge Brewing Co. has a long history in the Alberta prairies, reaching back to the end of the 19th century. The original source of wheat and barley, founded by the Bilton family over 120 years ago is still in their hands and continues to provide ingredients for their brewery. NWT Brewing is the work of Fletcher Stevens who opened up in Yellowknife in 2014, brewing on recipes patiently crafted in his homebrewing kit. Now these two craft sensations have joined forces to collaborate on the Solidity Harvest Ale. With respect to the wildfires that have affected those in Alberta and the NorthWest Territories, they pledge all proceeds from this beer to the United Way and rebuild their lives far from the things of city life. The Solidity Harvest Ale has a balanced flavour of lightly toasted biscuit and caramel malt, touched with citrus zest. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to six months.
Look
Pours a light brown/copper colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A frothy, sticky head of bubbles pours from the can and clings to the top of the beer.
Smell
The rich, warm malt dominates the nose, smelling of sweet caramel and aided by the subtle aroma of dried stone fruit.
Taste
Quite a mild flavour that leans into the sweet malt while allowing some of the complementary flavours to come in and out. At the front end you’ll taste more of the citrus, but it eases off and lets in a more floral, dried fruit flavour. This rides on the palate to the end of the taste, smooth in the mouth and with a touch of acidity, finishing up smooth with an aftertaste of the dried fruit.
Pairing
A perfect beer for something off the grill that has a touch of fat in it, like a perfectly cooked Ribeye or double-cut Pork chop.
