Profile

Scott Vaccaro founded the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in 2006, a short drive north from New York City. The Captain is the area’s largest craft brewery, producing over 28,000 barrels of beer annually. Now the brewery produces over 100 different beers every year and specializes in barrel-aged and sour beers. With this much beer under their belts, it only made sense to erect their own 2500 square foot beer hall and massive beer garden. If you’re in the northern part of New York State and you need to find a place that will serve you and 400 of your closest friends, then you need look no further than the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company. The Orange Crusher is an American-style lager with a light, crisp, and refreshing body, infused with the flavour of oranges. Low alcohol and tastiness make for an easily quaffed brew. Serves well at 6°C and can cellar for 3 to 6 months.

Look

Pours a pale yellow colour with a hazy body and low carbonation. A thin ring of frizzy bubbles sits around the edge of the glass.

Smell

Most of what you’re going to get on the nose will be juicy orange flesh and some sharper zest. A little bit of the grainy malt creeps through, but the oranges have the stage.

Taste

The orange flavour follows the nose but not as strongly as you’d expect from the aroma. The grain flavour of the malt comes in on the heels of the initial orange taste to cut down the sweetness and give it some earthier, toasted grain qualities. The zest and flesh are well balanced, the body is crisp and refreshing, and the finish is snappy. A perfect summer patio beer for the fruit infused drinker.

Pairing

A perfect beer to hit a patio and order yourself some Nachos.
