Look up Devil’s Canyon and you will find; three bad Western films, an equally bad album by Molly Hatchett, an actual place in California discovered by 18th century Spanish settlers which runs through Belmont and San Carlos, and our main point of interest, Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company. Established in 2001, Devil’s Canyon helped pioneer the Bay Area craft movement through innovation, sustainability, persistence and above all flavourful beer! Belle Biére Brut is a distinctively different and distinguished beer unlike any other beer you have tasted. Labelled as a California Sparkling Ale, it is essentially a beer-champagne hybrid, with a discrete aesthetic profile of a Kolsch style ale and the aroma/taste of a celebratory Champagne. One taste won’t be enough to pinpoint every rich, stylistic nuance of this beer, so please invite your friends and enjoy the occasion. Serve well chilled, 3-7C.
Cloudy, golden, straw-yellow with a small, bright, white foam head that laces extremely well and lasts for most if not all of the glass. A good amount of active carbonation is present, with tiny bubbles surfacing to the top without increasing the head.
A very sweet smelling beer with lots of deliciously saccharine and effervescent aromas such as apricot, honey, apple pear, straw, white grapes, pineapple and rose and chamomile.
With the use of champagne yeast, that negates nearly all hop bitterness and heightens every sweet characteristic of the sugary malt. The yeast brings out the sugary undertones of the malt and hides the floral overtones of the hops. The taste is very sweet, like nectar, and dare we say, nectar of the gods. It smells almost exactly how it tastes, with primary hints of honey and apricot culminating to produce with a dry, iridescent finish.
This is a celebratory beer unlike other leisure beers, so foods that are usually served with others for a special occasion will pair best. Think New Year’s Eve appetizers like Oysters Rockefeller, smoked salmon, and brie.
