Profile

Smell

Strong aroma of toasted grain malt along with a slightly sweet caramel, a hint of stone fruit, and a little bit of the hops peeking out from the edges, fresh and green.

Taste

The malt is up front but unlike the aroma there’s a hoppier, earthier flavour that stands right next to it. The sweetness of the malt falls away and the leafy, black tea-like flavours dominate the taste going forward.

Pairing

Time for a hearty roast chicken and rosemary potatoes!

Sight

Pours a dark amber colour with an opaque body and low carbonation. A thin layer of small, off-white bubbles forms on the top of the glass.

Description

For close to 50 years, The Shed Brewery has been making craft beer in Vermont. The original brewery worked out of a former blacksmith shop that was converted to a cider mill and frequented by local farmers. An auspicious beginning to be sure. In recent years, The Shed became a part of the employee owned Mass. Bay Brewing Company, the same group that brews the Harpoon line of beers. Now the quality and unique vision of The Shed is able to be distributed far and wide, including up into the northern reaches of Canada. The Shed Brewery has only a few core beers, Mountain Ale and Mountain IPA, along with a small series of limited release beers. Their goal is to make a few great beers and to always do it well, letting the wild experiments flash through while they keep thirsty folks satisfied. The Mountain Ale is an English-style strong ale with a roasted flavour backbone and sweet caramel notes. Perfect for sitting in front of the hearth. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to six months.
