Profile

Smell

The nose leans hard into the tropical fruit but doesn’t give up any one aroma you could nail down. It’s made tougher by the combination of flowery hops that overlap the fruit.

Taste

A classic IPA flavour, right down the middle of the plate. The light malt holds up a tender flavour of citrus and muddled tropical fruit. As it warms on the palate, there’s a small turn, revealing more of the flowery and earthy hops, and adding a dry edge to the body. Finishes up dry with a slight aftertaste of citrus and the floral hops. A fast taste that’s worth taking a few seconds to let linger on the tongue.

Pairing

The mild bitterness could benefit from something spicy, but not too powerful or you’ll lose out on what the beer has to offer. Try out a Salsa Verde Chicken Casserole.

Sight

Pours a light golden colour with a hazy body and low carbonation. A thin head of small bubbles pours from the can and slowly dissipates.

Description

Brian Strumke heard the first rumblings of craft brewing in the basement of his Baltimore rental in 2010 and it would take a few years before the sound and taste of that name was known beyond one man. Originally invented to be a roaming craft idea that relied on the help of contract brewers and good friends, Strumke made beer around the world for close to a decade. After 10 years of roaming and brewing, Stillwater Artisanal has taken up a permanent address in the South West of Washington, where beers can be thrown at Seattle and Portland with equal ease. But despite finally settling down, Strumke is determined to maintain the diversity that Stillwater produces, as a reflection of the journeys he’s taken and still plans to take with our taste buds. The Filson Gold Rush is an American-style IPA with no allegiance to the west or east. Built on pale, crisp golden malt and select hops from the Pacific Northwest, this IPA serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.
