Profile
Smell
Aromas of roasted grains, espresso beans, dusty baker’s chocolate and a perfume of dried fruits that add a lovely accent.
Taste
Comes on strong right off the bat. The malt is a swift kick to the palate and has strong flavours of espresso, chocolate, and fruit following right behind it. The stronger flavours fade off quickly, leaving behind the delicious chocolate and coffee with a hint of green leaves. The body is smooth and full, finishing up silky with an aftertaste of coffee. This is a big flavour beer that leaves nothing on the table.
Pairing
Try this as a stand alone beer, there’s a lot going on and you don’t want to miss it.
Sight
Pours a deep, dark brown with low carbonation. A thick head of darkly tinted foam from the pour calms down to a thin layer protecting the aroma.

Description
Ken Grossman founded Sierra Nevada Brewing after a young life of home-brewed science experiments. It only made sense that as an adult, homebrewing would be the next step. But it began in earnest when he finally started a brewery in the early 80s, putting out a well regarded stout. But with the creation of his Pale Ale, the adventure truly began. Within a few years, Grossman was shipping the skeleton of a copper brewhouse purchased in Germany across the ocean. By the late 90s the major expansion has happened and Grossman is putting out series barrels worth of beer every year. The 40th Anniversary passed not long ago and nothing is slowing down the quest for great beer. The Narwhal Imperial Stout is malt forward with a depth of flavour that will leave you feeling a touch of thalassophobia. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to six months.
