Profile

Smell

A strange combination of sweet caramel and big hops. The hoppiness is sweet and floral with a fresh and bracing aroma.

Taste

The sweetness of the malt comes in and balances the hops perfectly. The variety of hops allows for an evolving flavour on the palate, showcasing floral, herbal, earthy, and pine tones in a wonderful array that doesn’t become cloying or overpowering. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth, trending towards a dry finish. The final taste is slightly sweet caramel and fresh greens.

Pairing

Good to pair up with anything off the grill or creamy pasta.

Sight

Pours a dark golden colour tinted to amber with a clear body and medium carbonation. A thin layer of small bubbles rests on top of the pour.

Description

The prairie bound brewery of Medicine Hat Brewing Company has only been getting the golden drink into eager hands for slightly more than four years, but has already distributed more than two dozen beers. Made up of the hard working VanCuren family and brewmaster Mitch Dalrymple, MH Brewing is spreading their wings to deliver beer across Canada and now down into the U.S. The brewery originally opened its doors in 1912, but was shut down when the temperance movement came into power in North America. The VanCuren family brought it back online in 2012 with fresh new tech but the same tradition of great beer brewed with locally sourced materials. The Year 7 is a Red Ale with some age to give it a real kick. Dark, sweet malt and a variety of hops makes this a wild ride. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.
