Description

The Lost Abbey shares a space with Port Brewing and The Hop Concept in San Marcos, California. Founded by Vince Marsagla, the brewery set out to create flavourful, expressive beers inspired by monastic traditions and styles. Head brewmaster Tomme Arthur joined Vince in 1997. He’d been brewing for Vince’s sister, Gina, at her Pizza Port restaurant, which was famous for championing craft beer in San Diego back in the early days. Tomme honed his skills there for many years until Stone Brewing Co. vacated its spot in San Marcos, paving the way for The Lost Abbey to have a permanent home. Even though they take their brewing seriously, there’s also a good dose of humour in the mix. Take their Ten Commandments brew, for example. It sounds religious, but it’s actually a playful nod to their “rules” of brewing, spelled out right on the bottle. While they make seasonal and limited releases, The Lost Abbey is best known for its Belgian-inspired beers.
