Description

Making gluten-free beer isn’t just about creating beer meant for people with celiac allergies but also about creating beer from entirely different ingredients much like how you can make pasta with different grains such as chickpeas (which is considered a specialty in Liguria). Different grains yield different flavour profiles. Helix is a brewery completely dedicated to crafting gluten-free beers. Gluten-free beers are harder to make, and more expensive as the grains used are normally more expensive than the traditional barley, oats, or wheat used.  Cameron, who started Helix ten years ago, began the brewery but didn’t have the traditional training that was needed to run the brewery. Cameron’s only experience was as a home brewer. But what he did have was all the motivation and dedication to the project that was required.  When he found the building for Helix, he began working right away. A very small space that he built almost entirely by himself, with some help, as he built it from the ground up (he does have an engineering background). Helix makes a small selection of gluten-free beers, all different styles, and is considered one of the top gluten-free producers in Quebec. This beer was inspired by the fruity and slightly bitter IPAs of Northeastern America. It won silver at the World Beer Awards for gluten-free beers in 2019.
