Description

Glutenberg was started as a project between two friends in Québec who were frustrated with the selection of gluten-free beer available on the market. It was when David Cayer met Julien Niquet while studying business at the Université du Québec a Montréal.  The idea for a gluten-free brewery came when Niquet was diagnosed with Celiac disease. They saw a unique opportunity to meet a growing need for GF beer on the market. It also enabled them to realize their dream of owning their own business. After research and development in 2011, the company launched its very first beer on the Québec market: the Glutenberg Blonde. Shortly after, the American Pale Ale followed alongside the Amber, all with great reception. The international success followed in the 2012 World Beer Cup where Glutenberg won all three medals in the gluten-free category, the world’s most prestigious brewing competition. Distribution increased ten-fold, all around Canada and the United States. Glutenberg has since grown its portfolio to include a Gose, stouts, double IPAs, etc.  Interestingly, over 50% of their production is exported to the United States. 90% of their raw materials are sourced directly from Québec and 100% of their grains are gluten-free. Glutenberg is considered the pioneer for this category of beer in Canada.
