Profile
Smell
Aromas of chocolate and caramel as advertised, but there’s a strong aroma of sweet, sugary malt and serious booze (despite the low ABV). The floral hops are gentle and pleasant in the background.
Taste
Quite a different flavour from the nose, you’ll get the earthy coffee beans and freshly cut leaves from the hops first and foremost. The dusty chocolate notes are way in the back and overpowered by the sweeter and slightly acetone character that came through in the nose. The flavour is fast on the palate, finishing off dry and with a touch of loam.
Pairing
Find your nearest smoke house and get some Salt & Pepper smoked wings on your plate next to this beer.
Sight
Pours almost pitch black with a totally occluded body and low carbonation. A thin ring of frizzy white bubbles forms around the top of the glass.

Description
Starting up their machinations in 2018, Evil Corporation Brewing threw its hat into the ring of Calgary’s savage craft brewing scene and has been keeping pace with the insanity. Built around the ethos of brewing the best beer possible while they bid farewell to the limiting blather of the business world (as envisioned in some of their favorite movies from the 80s), Evil has levered their beer offering up to 16 year-round brews on the slate. Many of their beers revolve around the pale ale foundation and a few of them are built on the Pilsner style, now you get to taste one of their rare birds: the Porter. The Ponzi Porter is based on the American style, with chocolate and caramel notes, mild spices and floral hops, and a clean visit on your palate. Serves well at 10°C and can cellar for up to six months.
