Profile

Smell

Slightly fruity but with an interesting spice kick. The fruit comes to the nose dressed as stone fruit and dried plums. The spices pretend to be cloves, but are not. Very crafty.

Taste

The flavour is quite mild for all the oddity of the nose. The fruit is very mild and with a touch of citrus zest around the edges. The spices that are strong on the nose are almost nonexistent in the taste, but there are hints. Overall, a very mild pale ale that’s easy drinking and smooth in the mouth. Finishes off slowly and softly.

Pairing

The soft nature of this beer means it’ll go with nearly anything – time to break out a personal favourite!

Sight

Pours a golden colour with a hazy body and medium carbonation. A thick, bubbly head rests on top of the pour.

Description

Dead Frog began its life as the Backwoods Brewing company started by Derrick and Donna Smith in B.C. But the beers and branding weren't getting it done and the lack of taproom kept people from discovering their brews. Rebranding as Dead Frog and opening up to the public, the Smiths found themselves finally achieving the beer making heaven they'd hoped for. In 2018, the whole operation moved into a bigger facility in the heart of Langley with a proper tasting room and 20 brews on tap. Now their home-grown style, using local ingredients sourced from the bounty of British Columbia is making itself known. The Pondside Pale Ale has a wild variety of hops in it, providing big, juicy flavours and letting the taste roam around on the palate. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed right away.
