Description

Dageraad means “daybreak” or “sunrise” in Flemish. It’s also the name of a square in Antwerp, where people gather to drink beer, be casual, and sit and enjoy life together. Ben Coli, owner and operator, is a Belgium beer aficionado. The first of its kind in British Columbia, where the focus of the brewery is entirely based on Belgian-style ales.  Ben fell in love with Belgium: the lifestyle, the people, but especially the beer. So he committed. He went to brewing school and took two beer sabbaticals to Belgium, where he learned more about the Belgian beer art. Taking his experiences back to Vancouver with him, Ben opened Dageraad Brewing, a brewery that is Belgian-inspired.  Belgian beers often supplement the balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness with fruity, spicy, floral, and herbal aromas. They have been described as running through a hayfield at harvest or walking through an orchard, being enveloped with all those fresh fruit aromas. You can also find earthiness, umami, mushroom, savoury aromas that seem to take on texture, and mouth-watering acidity. Belgians are distinctive with 13 different styles in their very own category. This amber was inspired by the experience of enjoying a fresh “bolleke”-Antwerp locals’ affectionate nickname for a glass of De Koninck in the Dageraadplazt, a stone’s throw from the De Konnick Brewery.
