Profile

Smell

While the claims about tropical fruit aroma are backed up once you have a sniff of this beer, you’ll also be getting a strong whiff of pine hops.

Taste

There’s an initial zing of piney hops and some acidity, but once that lets off the gas and you can taste again you’ll find some soft, slightly sweet tropical fruit with a citrus edge. The hops hang around to keep balance, but fade away throughout the tasting. An interesting “island take” on the IPA, that hits fast and leaves even faster. Take your time with this one.

Pairing

Time for some Jerk Chicken and dirty rice. Do it! Live!

Sight

Pours a pale yellow colour with a mostly clear body and medium carbonation. A thin layer of small bubbles rests on top of the pour.

Description

If you had a time machine there would be a strong argument that the best thing you could do is travel to the California coast in 1996 and open a small-batch brewery that would become hugely popular, and give you success on the beach every day of your life. Ron and Rick Chapman managed to do this without having to penetrate the infinite mysteries of the space-time continuum, and good on them for doing it. Their original brewing system only managed 10 barrels but they parlayed it into a thriving interest in only a few years, eventually moving to bottled beer off a bigger line nearly a decade later. Now they are a world recognized brewery winning Great American Beer Festival awards for their IPAs in a massive brewing location with plenty of room for dusty time machines in the back. Wait... ignore the last part. The Palm Sway is a twist on the West Coast IPA, taking on island style for juicy tropical fruits with a big citrus kick. Serves well at 6°C and should be enjoyed promptly.
