Profile

Smell

Quite a sweet and bready smelling malt up top with a touch of floral backbone from the hops.

Taste

A mellow flavour all around that eases in and out - sweet malt with a touch of toasted biscuit and light fruitiness. The hops pick up after the initial taste and provide a floral quality that gains some legs as it warms up on the tongue, but all of it is laid back and smooth. Medium-bodied mouthfeel with a silky quality that fades off slowly, leaving a touch of lilac behind.

Pairing

A strong affinity for a great cheese board, especially if you include some Colby on the lumber.

Sight

Pours a light golden colour with a slightly hazy body and low carbonation. A thin head of small bubbles pours from the can.

Description

It began when a couple friends brewed a beer together in 2005. It began in a single home-brewing kit. Family tradition had started the process but it was greater ambition and greater desire to share the tradition of the family with the community at large. So a couple friends started Common Roots Brewing Company. More than a few obstacles have stood in their path - money, naturally - but more dramatically the great obstacle was the original brewery burning to the ground. But that doesn’t stop tradition and with the community rallying behind them, Common Roots got back up and started all over again. Common has produced over 130 beers since opening their doors for commercial production in 2013, and now their beer is crossing oceans and continents. The Common Roots Lager is made in the Helles style, a pale body and slightly sweet malt that evolves on the palate thanks to Noble hops. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for six months.
