Profile

Smell

A strong caramel and candy-floss aroma that’s backed up with an earthy and leafy hops that are pleasant smelling but quite subtle.

Taste

Leans strongly into the coffee flavours right off the top. But for a beer this dark and powerful on the nose, you’ll find it a bit thinner on the palate. The roasted elements ease off and more of the hops and malt stand out as the flavour evolves. There’s almost a charcoal-like quality to the roasted elements as they taper off during the taste, finishing off toward bitter and dry in the mouth.

Pairing

Perfect for a well appointed charcuterie board. Maybe throw some hard cheese in for good luck.

Sight

Pours a dark amber colour, bordering on a stout, with a mostly clear body and medium carbonation. A thick pillow of foam pours from the can and comes to a rest as frothy lacing.

Description

Kicking off the party in 2017, Belly Hop Brewing is slinging out tasty craft beers made on the northside of Red Deer, Alberta. Family owned, Belly Hop embraces the ethos of the friendly neighborhood pub, with a taproom that's cozy and filled with personal touches. Four beers grace the taps year-round and serve up a steady flow of regulars looking for atypical IPAs and homebrew funk like wild sours and dry-hopped saisons. Tall folk can enjoy a pint while shorter, growing lads and lasses can enjoy custom sodas and cordials. Small-town and old-school fun for all. The Brother Bear Dark Ale is made in the style of the classic Schwarzbier, with warm chocolate tones, roasted qualities, and full-bodied satisfaction. Serves well at 8°C and can celler for around six months.
