Luppolo Brewing is the work of two couples: Eleanor and Ryan teamed up with Fede and Anique to bring their brewing dream to life. All of them grew up with large, tightly knit families that appreciate good food enjoyed with everyone and especially with a great pint in their hands. Ryan brewed at home but worked hard to bring up his game for the brewery proper and nearly ten years later all their hard work is evident in the popularity of their taproom and the beer that flows in it. Dozens of beers are available when you pull up a chair, many being one-offs that Ryan and the crew have experimented to discover and meet the quality check mark. La Piazza Italian Pilsner runs a classic program touched by modern brewing wisdom. A biscuit malt body and noble hop spice gets a kick in the pants from dry-hopping, creating an evolving flavour. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for 3 months.
Pours a light yellow colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A thin layer of small, bone-white bubbles rests on top of the pour.
A light, sweet malty aroma with a touch of citrus edge and way in the background you’ll get the sense of delicate floral tones.
Out of the gate the flavour is slightly sweet malt and buttery smoothness. It quickly turns toward the more interesting, bringing in some floral and green hop flavours, and some citrus notes. The mouth feel is slightly dry throughout, leaning toward a drier finish. The flavour is very mild and pleasant, a classic Pilsner but with a softer edge. An excellent, refreshing brew for the patio.
The flavours of this beer are delicate, so dig into a restrained charcuterie and let each shine.
