Profile

Superflux Brewing was born in the skeleton of a previous brewery. Adam Henderson and Matt Kohlen met while working only a few blocks away from where their craft brewery would eventually open. Developing their brand and style ideas over pints after work, they burst onto the scene in the summer of 2020. Not the best of times to open up, but their quality brews and positive outlook kept them in the game during the dark times and they came out of it with a head of steam. Superflux aims for bold beers on their slate, valuing a program of experimentation that leads them to great turns on classic forms. This means a broad selection that’s sure to give something to beer drinkers of every stripe. The Colour & Shape is an IPA that follows all the rules of the American style but is mellow and laid back across all of them. Slightly sweet with a smattering of balancing hops, this is an easy drinking IPA. Serves well at 8°C and should be cracked open soonish.

Look

Pours a pale yellow colour with a hazy body and medium carbonation. A thin layer of white bubbles pours from the can but quickly disappears.

Smell

A mellow nose on this beer shows some floral and leafy hops alongside a muddled aroma of sweet tropical fruit. There’s also a touch of citrus zest to get the nose tingling.

Taste

The sweeter elements of the fruit including mango and grapefruit are at the front of this beer. But they’re balanced out quickly by the floral and leafy bitterness of the hops. The whole flavour is mellow and tasty, making a soft and sweet landing before ebbing away to a slightly dry finish leaving behind the sweet and sticky fruit.

Pairing

White bean chicken stew sounds great and would make a nice pairing with this mellow IPA.
