Once upon a time, Russ Heissner was the head brewer for Harpoon in Boston. But time came that Russ needed to be making his own creations, so he moved a little bit, brewed a little bit, and Barrel House Z began. Starting in 2015, Heissner has been brewing out of Weymouth, Massachusetts. Barrel House is a small team creating small-batch beers, exploring a range of styles and expressions. But wherever they explore on the palate, their philosophy is rock-steady: great ideas backed by the best ingredients. Guided by a rigorous adherence to quality technique. Over 200 beers have been produced under these guidelines and many are available from their taproom or delivered to your door. The Bamboozles By Hops is an IPA with a big, fruity aroma tempered by a floral backbone. Subtle flavour that flashes by the palate makes for a tricky, fun beer. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.
Look
Pours a dark golden colour with a hazy body and low carbonation. A thin ring of small bubbles forms around the glass.
Smell
Smells of sweet, muddled tropical fruit with a breakout aroma of pineapple. A heavy floral aroma from the hops and some booziness disguises the rest.
Taste
A very fast tasting experience, the first thing you'll get is a sharp bitterness that rolls off and lets the sweeter elements through. The fruit is weaker on the palate than on the nose and a lot of what you'll taste is the leafy, bitter hops, a touch of grainy malt, and some salty minerality. Finishes quickly with a slightly dry mouthfeel and some hoppiness left behind.
