Profile

Surly Brewing isn’t here just to make tasty beer. They will make tasty beer, that much is certain, but they’re also going to supercharge their community with gusto while they’re at it. Brewing from the core of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Surly has been on the scene since 2010, making beer and showing up to the best music festivals. Their attitude is all about a full-throttle way of getting it done and getting up off the mat when it doesn’t work. Surly has made a point of reaching into their community to provide support and beer when the people of Minneapolis are having fun, and now their beer is making its way up into the north for your own good times. Furious is an American-style IPA with a bold hop profile and sweet malty body. Packed with a wide array of hops, the taste evolves on the palate for a wild ride. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.

Look

Pours an amber colour with mostly clear body and medium carbonation. A thin layer of sticky bubbles rests on top.

Smell

Floral and pine hops leap out of the glass into your nose first and foremost. A touch of fruity sweetness lurks in the background with the malt.

Taste

Most of the flavours crash into each other, making a touch difficult to pull them apart. The bitter, leafy green of the hops is on the front of the taste, but you can get some of the floral notes with it. It takes a little time for the sweeter malt and citrus notes to come through, but this all speaks to a well integrated flavour. Finishes up smooth and snappy with little left behind.

Pairing

While there’s some bitterness, it’s not over the top, so get into something spicy and sweet - Marinate flank steak in Sriracha and Sweet Chili and hit the grill.
