Profile

The crew of Cannery Brewing is dedicated to taking advantage of the ingredients they are blessed to be surrounded by in Penticton. The Okanagan valley sports some of the best orchards in the country and numerous other crops flourish in the area. Cannery relies on locally sourced malt and hops, depending on quality techniques to produce unpasteurized beers with crisp, fresh flavours. Over 20 styles of beer are available from Cannery, once only the purview of British Columbia, their beer is starting to travel across the Great North and down into the United States. Good things can’t stay hidden forever. Eight of their beers are year-round, with the rest enjoying a seasonal release. The Meadowlark Pub Ale is based on the classic English Pale Ale you’d find in the local public house. A slightly sweet body that has a twist of hops for some balance, light and easy drinking, who can say no? Serves well at 6°C and should be enjoyed fairly soon.

Look

Pours a golden colour with a fairly clear body and light carbonation. A nice, frothy head of foam rests on top of the glass.

Smell

Quite a grainy first impression with a touch of sweet corn malt in the mix. The hops balance that out by adding in a touch of earthy and floral qualities.

Taste

The grainy malt from the nose has more of a sweet and nutty flavour once it hits the palate. But those flavours drop off very quickly, leaving you with some classic caramel malt sweetness and a slightly dusty, earthy stone taste. Quite an astringent mouthfeel and the flavour snaps off almost completely after the swallow. This is a quality ale but it doesn’t hang out for long.

Pairing

This was designed for pub food - get the menu and go nuts. (We vote on the Beef Dip!)
