More than a few radical craft breweries make their home in Portland, Oregon, and Breakside is making the most of it. Knocking out craft beer since 2010, Breakside Brewery has become a staple in the Portland area and even expanded outside Portland itself, opening up a larger-scale production facility in Milwaukie, OR. Multiple other locations have sprung up over the years, allowing Breakside to provide their tasty brew at a scale that can cross the continent, but also allowing each location to brew their own unique beers. Now they cultivate the neighborhood and the world with equal efficiency and intimacy. Quite the balancing act for a crew that started in a basement. The Breakside is an American-style IPA with big citrus and tropical fruit notes, combined with a resinous pine hop character for balance. Serves well at 8°C and you should enjoy it right away.
Pours a pale yellow colour with a hazy body and medium carbonation. A frothy head of small, white bubbles rests on top.
A pleasant mix of tropical fruit, leaning toward pineapple and mango, and fresh, green leaves delivering the hoppiness.
Hops are at the forefront of this beer, delivering a strong pine resin flavour with a hint of floral qualities in the background. The fruit jumps in and provides a balance to the beer with citrus zest, grapefruit, and apricot. The backbone of cracker malt with a touch of caramel sweetness keeps everything moving in the right direction, and cuts off with a lip smacking finish.
Marinate some flank steak and then make street tacos on your own street - make sure to include some zesty salsa for a full taste experience.
