Profile

Opening their doors in 2014, Oliphant Brewing is making tasty craft beer for Wisconsinites, but their work is making its way across the land. Started by Matt Wallace and Trevor Wirtanen, Oliphant doesn’t take itself too seriously, but they do put out high-quality craft beer. In their time, they’ve managed to produce more than 300 different beers, running the gamut of styles. Light and Dark ales, tons of diverse IPAs, and many fruited Sours (because why not?) Oliphant’s taproom is half art gallery and half beer heaven. 25 taps are serving up beer at any given time, and there’s something for every beer lover out there. The Lumberjack Baes is a Hazy IPA designed for chopping down trees and battling Sasquatch. A collaboration brew made with three of the most popular hops, there’s powerful tropical fruit flavours and zesty citrus ripping through it. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed right away.

Look

Pours a light yellow colour with a hazy body (as advertised) and medium carbonation. No real head forms after the pour.

Smell

A strong combination of fruits including grapefruit, blood orange, pineapple, and lemon zest. The hops show up with a touch of floral and earthy aromas.

Taste

The fruity flavours show up just as they announced themselves in the nose, with the grapefruit and pineapple taking the lead. The orange qualities fade off and the citrus gets a touch more aggressive. The floral quality of the hops is still floating around in the background. The body is light and frizzy, but with a clean delivery on the flavour, very little aftertaste, and a dry finish.

Pairing

A solid pairing with anything that’s got a touch of hot sauce kick and some fat in it - time for a fried chicken sandwich!
