Introduction

The Peat Brothers started off their craft brewing dream in small batches of homemade booze, slowly but surely mastering their craft to produce tasty beers. Finally, in 2014, Longslice Brewery was opened up. Now Toronto feels the power of a craft brewer with a history of manic brewing determination. While their brewery is not massive, their commitment is full-scale - all of their beers are brewed on site. Nearly a dozen regular beers are on the slate, covering all styles that are common to the craft scene, and a few that are truly weird. Longslice has begun to push their beers out of Ontario and across the nation (maybe even sneaking down into the U.S.) Jump into a can of their brew and taste a small brewer with a big reputation. The Loose Lips is a Vienna-style lager typically made with noble hops and delivering a toasty flavour, crisp body, and a touch of caramel sweetness. This is a good example with a few twists in the tasting experience. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for six months.

How it looks

Pours a pale golden colour with a clear body and high carbonation. A bubbly head pours from the can and rests on top of the glass.

How it smells

A very subtle aroma from this beer, you’ll pick up a touch of the malt and some crackly yeast, along with a little bit of floral character, but not much else to pick out.

How it tastes

Slightly sweet, but leaning toward a sour note as it evolves on the palate. There’s a strong backbone from the bready malt, and on top of that you’ll find lemon and some floral hops. The sweet and sour turns toward a grassier hop as the taste continues and eventually leaves off with a slightly astringent mouthfeel and an aftertaste of lemons.

Recommended food pairing

Get into something fatty with a good grill on it or tangy sauce - like pulled pork sandwiches.
