In the late 1990s, the Rochester Mills Beer Co. came to life in the old Western Knitting Mill in Rochester, Michigan. The creators of RMBC wanted to preserve and retain the original ethos of American manufacturing - infusing their own business with the determination, tradition, and craftsmanship of their forefathers. But with a twist of attitude from a time that was on the doorstep of the 21st century. Rochester Mills has become one of the spots the community regards as emblematic of their town. Rochester Mills Brewing Co. produces over 1500 bbl of beer annually, and has a dozen beers on the permanent slate. All styles and tastes are served up in flights, pints, or pitchers. The Milkshake Stout is brewed with milk sugars to give it a smooth, full body and sweet character. Serves well at 6°C and can cellar up to a year.
Pours inky black and is completely impossible to see through. The carbonation is mild and the head from the can disappears quickly, leaving only a ring of bubbles.
Classic stout aroma on this beer - toasted grain malt, toffee, medium roast coffee beans, dark chocolate and vanilla, and a bit of earthiness or cut roots in the background.
Smooth and silky, sweet and earthy. It’s everything that a milk stout aims to deliver, right on the nose. The roasted elements help balance out the sweetness and milky notes, but never corrupt the best part of a milk stout. It’s delicious, but if you’re looking for something to blow your doors off in the milk stout arena, you’ll find this is just a well-done version, not any kind of new territory.
A smooth stout needs a stout meal - dig into roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, and peas.
