Introduction

Sea Change Brewing Co. is an artist-owned craft brewery in Edmonton, Alberta. Founded in 2017, Sea Change taproom is an art gallery combined with a brewpub featuring five year-round beers on the taps along with a rotation of seasonal beers conjured by the artist’s imagination for odd combinations, interesting flavours, and random ingredients. A limited west-coast menu has been built to pair up with their creations - staying light, fresh, and tasty. Sea Change enjoys collaborations with other brewers and makers of all things that satisfy the palate. Their team-up with Farrow eatery resulted in 120 baked cronuts being added to their latest beer creation. Yes... they put doughnuts in a beer. When someone is crazy enough to put pastry in their mash, you know you’re walking in the high country. The Farrow Turbo Stout is a doughnut-powered milk stout with flavours of coffee, caramel, biscuit, and dark fruit. Serves well at 10°C and can stay in the beer fridge for up to six months.


How it looks

Pours black as midnight with low carbonation and a little ring of brown-tinted, bubbly foam around the edge of the glass to remind you of the circle of life.

How it smells

Toasted grain on top of all the other aromas, followed by baker’s chocolate, vanilla bean, caramel, toffee, buttered filo pastry, medium roast coffee, and warm milk.

How it tastes

The flavour of coffee and cream mixes with a slightly nutty spiced flavour, all of it wrapped in a smooth cream. The sharper flavour of malt comes up from underneath and balances out the sweetness. As the flavour rests on the tongue, a touch of smokiness emerges and signals the smooth but slightly bitter finish to the tasting.

Recommended food pairing

With such a sweet beer it wouldn’t hurt to get a dessert - some coffee cake or a cinnamon bun would go well with this beer. But avoid the icing.
