Dandy Brewing’s “I’ve Been to a Marvellous Party” showcases one of Calgary’s best known and best success stories in craft brewing. Four bright lads from the west continue to produce unique offerings from the edge of Ramsay. This party is among their most limited releases, from the winter 2018 brew cycle, and this is the last of it. The typical IPA kicked in the pants – driven to the edge of what IPA can withstand. A dry astringent finish and bitter taste with a knife’s edge. Exciting and full of flavour, light in the body and with the character of the finest European bubbly. This party should be poured crisp and cold like the best champagnes. Serve at 5 C and don’t let it linger on your shelf.

How it looks

This party pours a frothy, pale straw colour with an excited head of bone white foam that fizzles up and then quickly recedes away to nothing.

How it smells

A rich combination of citrus rind and the body of the fruit gives it a sweet initial scent, along with a touch of grainy malt. With a deep breath, you’ll be able to find some green grass and pine from the hops hiding in the back.

How it tastes

This party starts off with a dry and bitter opening remark that stretches across your palette and lingers there. The pine we smelled earlier takes up a lot of the room and combines with the flavour of the guava peel for a sharp taste experience that has very little influence from the sweeter fruit. The malt provides some grain flavouring as it lingers but you’ll definitely be remembering New Year’s Eve and the last glass of brut champagne you enjoyed.

Recommended food pairing

Given this party is on the dryer side of an IPA, find yourself some fresh sourdough and slather it with garlic butter, toasted to perfection, and then slam it into spinach artichoke dip with abandon.
