Profile

Smell

Muddled tropical fruit aromas are strong in the front-end, a slightly floral hoppy character, a touch of funk, and a fresh, wet loamy smell.

Taste

A bit of a sharp acidity and bitterness right at the start of the taste rolls back and lets the fruitier elements come into focus. But the fruit is short-lived, you’ll taste the hops come in quickly, leafy and green. The dry-hopped nature makes the flavour move around a lot on the palate, slightly sweet and bitter, back and forth. Finishes off quickly with a touch of astringent mouthfeel and leaves.

Pairing

A light, spicy dish with some savoury qualities would be good - Pho with pork could work well.

Sight

Pour a light amber colour with a slightly murky body and low carbonation. A thin, sticky ring of off-white foam clings to the glass.

Description

It took more than a few long, hard years of working out the formula for Drew Fox to bring his home brewing passion from the garage to the streets of Indiana. While the project that was 18th Street began in 2010, it wasn’t until 2013 that the first official release hit the shelves. But the first release was the starting pistol for a brewery that quickly went into major production, leaping from a small brewpub to a massive warehouse in a handful of years and spreading sweet craft beer across the state. 18th Street now sports 8 year-round beers along with special releases and a tasting room putting out custom beers. The #2 Pencil is a Double IPA that’s Double hopped for a massive kick of juicy tropical flavour that evolves on the palate. Serves well at 8°C and you should get into it as soon as possible.
