Profile

Smell

Very mild aroma from this beer, you’ll get some of the malt and a touch of the vanilla but even warmed up this one keeps its secrets close.

Taste

The flavour is quite mild, riding on the backbone of the oatmeal for a solid foundation of slightly cereal malt and the accent of vanilla. But all in all you’re going to struggle to pull much more out of this beer. Very pleasant drinking and smooth in the mouth, but it requires some patience to get everything out of the taste.

Pairing

Nearly anything light and tasty will pair up well, but careful on spices as they’ll drown out the delicate flavour of the beer.

Sight

Pours a deep brown bordering on black with no daylight passing through it, and low carbonation. Very little head forms from the pour.

Description

In the hustle of the Calgary craft beer scene, two brothers decided that tasty beer was the ultimate quest. It would be a pretty fascinating story to tell you of how they traveled to far away lands in order to source some of the purest, and most remotely grown hops that have ever been turned into beer. But that really isn’t the case - they’re not worried about trying to get weird and funky, or experiment with ways to dry hop your dry hop, so that your hops are very dry. They want to make good beer that you can sit down and drink on a Friday night and be glad that you opened up the can. So get ready for Sparrowhawk’s straight-forward handiwork in the form of cool, crisp beer in your glass. Sparrowhawk’s Vanilla Oatmeal Stout follows the style with a silky body and cereal backbone but takes your palate on a ride with a touch of warm vanilla. Serves well at 9°C and can cellar for up to six months.
