Description

John Allen found his passion for brewing when he decided he needed a break from his long career in the film industry. Burnt out and ready for something new, he started making beer to supply himself and his friends with hard-to-find brews. Everything changed in July 1997 when he got his first tap and noticed locals lining up for his beer. At that point, he was only brewing about six times a month—definitely not enough to meet demand. In the early days, there was no real plan. John and his small team bottled everything by hand since they didn’t have large-scale equipment. Picture capping over a thousand bottles one by one! Pretty soon, he realized he either had to shut things down or step it up. So John bought property on Gottingen, secured a van, and invested in the gear needed to brew on a bigger scale. His first two flagship beers—an English Special Bitter and a Pale Ale—are still around today, a testament to his leap of faith and love for craft brewing.
