Profile

Smell

The aroma is quite subtle and blends everything well. You’ll pick up sweet molasses, roasted coffee, dusty dark chocolate, and a hint of floral hops.

Taste

The flavour follows the nose by being slow to show up and fairly laid back when it does. The coffee and hoppy elements are the most prominent once the flavour arrives, and the body is quite a bit thinner than you might expect. The result is a slightly dry mouth feel delivering sharper flavours and finishing up quickly.

Pairing

The brewer recommends getting into meaty options, so fire up the BBQ and get into your favourites.

Sight

Pours pitch black with a completely occluded body and low carbonation. A puffy head of caramel tinted foam sticks to the glass and rests on top.

Description

Six years ago, Henderson Brewing cranked up the engine and started canning their beers for distribution. Their Amber ale was the first offering and a lonely one. But it didn't take much time for the beer drinkers of Toronto to recognize that something special was on the scene. Now at full steam in the Brewery District, inside the Junction Triangle, Henderson is canning a few more. A full slate of Ales, Pilsners, IPA, and seasonal experiments flows from their taproom and can be picked up in a handy six of your favourite style. On top of brewing some tasty craft beer, their Brewery stands in as a venue for more than a few Food and Music festivals. But if you can’t find your way to Toronto, you can still enjoy their handiwork by cracking open a can. The Sunblock is a dark lager with deep, rich flavour that keeps you on your toes with some hoppy character that you won’t find in many darker beers. Serves well at 9°C and can cellar for six months.
