Description
President Brian Titus founded Garrison in 1997 with an inaugural batch of Irish Red Ale. He opened Garrison at a time when there wasn’t much of a craft beer scene. Brian was formerly a diving officer in the Navy and also an avid home brewer. Garrison was started in protest against the domestic and UK-styled beer invasion in Nova Scotia. Determined to see small-batch, independent brewing come back to the East Coast, Titus challenged what was the beer “norm” by creating innovative brews that were very different from what was offered in the market. By 2004, the brewery was going full steam ahead and the current brewery space wasn’t big enough to keep going. A second location was desperately needed. In February of 2006, the historic Immigration Annex on the south-end waterfront presented itself as a possibility and Titus took the space without a second thought. The new space allowed the brewery to triple its production and gave Garrison the ability to say their beer was 100% seaport brewed. Garrison hasn’t stopped growing, its popularity has only soared, and in 2012 they again required more space to make more beer. The choice of building was the old CN Rail Repair Building just a stone’s throw away. Throughout all this growth, Garrison has never stepped away from its commitment to producing beer that is enjoyed across Canada.
