Profile

Smell

A subtle aroma of lightly toasted grain and freshly cut greens. There’s a hint of vinous grape around the edges and a touch of citrus.

Taste

A stronger flavour than you might expect from the nose, you’ll get a slightly hoppy green flavour that combines fresh cut leaves and some earth notes, and it pairs up with a slightly sweet, toasted biscuit malt. The mouth feel is smooth and the body is light, crisp, and refreshing. It finishes off slightly dry and leaves behind a more bitter note of hops.

Pairing

Perfect beach beer, get anything out of the ocean, cook it in an open pit, and enjoy. Don’t light other stuff on fire.

Sight

Pours a light straw colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A lively head of small bubbles from the pour recedes to a thin layer resting on top.

Description

Firing up the brewing machines in the mid 1990s, AleSmith came out of the gate quick like a bunny, winning awards in their third year on the brewing scene. By 2002 the operation had been taken over by well-known brewer Peter Zien and the start of the barrel aging era was kicked off. Year over year AleSmith has improved their game or grown the size of their operation to bring tasty beers to California and beyond. In 2015 the company had outgrown its original location and expanded into a 100,000 sq. ft. facility that helped bring their beers across the world. Now with 9 year-round beers on the slate and boatloads of seasonals and limited releases, AleSmith is a name you’ll come to know and enjoy. The Clásico is a Mexican Lager, an homage to the Southern California home of AleSmith. Built on German and Vienna malts, the result is crisp and refreshing. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to six months.
