Fruited Sour Gose
Origin: San Diego, CA
Style: Fruited Sour Gose
Modern Times Beer is an eclectic group of flavour wizards - combining not only a brewery but a coffee roaster alongside it. Started in 2013 in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego, today they enjoy a reach that includes much of the western states (and sneaking up into Canada). With reach comes even more locations, they’ve expanded to three separate spots in Cali including a restaurant in Encinitas. More than 1500 different beers have been brewed by Modern Times in the past decade and all of them are flavour adventures designed to excite beer-drinkers of all stripes. The Fruitlands is a tart, sour, fruity, funky kind of beer. Based on the Gose style, using a wide variety of ingredients but bringing them together into a harmonized aroma and flavour. Fruitland has a big kick of tropical fruit and guava, with the tart kick to wake up your taste buds and drink it all in. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for six months.
Pours a light straw colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A respectable head of foamy bubbles rides on top of the glass from the pour.
Quite a floral aroma surrounding the sour notes. A bit of raspberry will creep its way out, but the one dominating note is going to be tough to get past.
The tartness will hit you hard and fast at the start. The fruitier flavours are almost lost behind the gut punch your tongue will take, but they linger on, along with the floral quality. A sizzler on your tongue and it moves fast across your taste buds - this one is worth taking your time to get the most out of it. But worth it!
Perfect for a BBQ with your friends, so get pork loin or chicken or tri-tip or... really anything on that grill will go with it.
