Profile

It began when a couple friends brewed a beer together in 2005. It began in a single home-brewing kit. Family tradition had started the process but it was greater ambition and greater desire to share the tradition of the family with the community at large. So a couple friends started Common Roots Brewing Company. More than a few obstacles have stood in their path - money, naturally - but more dramatically the great obstacle was the original brewery burning to the ground. But that doesn’t stop tradition and with the community rallying behind them, Common Roots got back up and started all over again. Common has produced over 130 beers since opening their doors for commercial production in 2013, and now their beer is crossing oceans and continents. The Time is an American-style pale ale with tropical fruit aromas and an easy drinking body. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed right away.

Look

A very pale yellow colour with a hazy body and low carbonation. A thin layer of sticky, off-white foam clings to the glass.

Smell

A mild mixture of fruit including tangerine, lemon flesh, and citrus zest. The hops provide a fragrant background of flowers and herbal aromas that mix into a pleasant perfume with some power.

Taste

The flavour leans more heavily into the citrus and tangerine flavour, with a touch of zest kicking after the swallow. The hops are present but they tend to hang out in the background and don’t evolve much on the palate, delivering a touch of floral and herbal but also throwing in fresh cut stem for a bit of bitter greens. Mostly smooth mouthfeel that takes a slightly dry turn at the finish, and an aftertaste of the fruit lingers on.

Pairing

The slightly bitter kick would pair up well with shellfish and butter-based sauce, or anything with some fat on it that’s touched the grill.
