Profile

Andina Brewing fuses the style and flavours of South America with the fresh ingredients and brewing techniques of British Columbia. Andrés Amaya celebrates his heritage by bringing the area of the Andes - the flavours, cuisine, and style - up to the snowy north of Canada. All of the beers in the Andina line-up reflect Amaya’s history, resulting in bright, bold flavours. Andina has 32 different beers on their slate and each one strives to bring something unique about the South America palate to Canadian beer drinkers. Alongside their taps, the crew has a taproom serving up South American cuisine to perfectly complement their brews. The Espesa is a DOUBLE IPA - loaded up with a mix of hops and sporting a powerful ABV kick in the pants, this beer has big fruity character and might leave you wobbly after a can or two. Serves well at 8°C and should be cracked open soonish.

Look

Pours a pale yellow colour with a hazy body and low carbonation. A frothy head of sticky foam clings to the glass off the pour.

Smell

The fruit character is knocked down a touch in the aroma by the hops clambering for your attention. A strong perfume comes out of the glass with a mix of floral notes and heavier herbal power as well.

Taste

As with all Double IPAs, this one rips open the palate right off the bat. But the sharper bitterness actually takes a quick backseat, letting the sweeter fruit elements come forward and some of the floral notes to squeeze in. It’ll feel like you’re drinking an IPA in reverse. The taste is bright and not overwhelming with the hops, and has a fairly smooth mouthfeel that fades off to a sweet kiss.

Pairing

Knock a Burger down your neck that’s smothered in tangy BBQ sauce, with a slice of cheese and some bacon on it to really take it over the top.
