Founded in 2014, and making their brews atop the flowing plains of Saskatchewan, Rebellion Brewing Co. Is one of Regina’s hidden gems in the craft scene. It’s not often that you hear about great beer coming out of the heart of the prairies, but that simply means you don’t have your ear to the ground long enough. A little bit country and a lot of punk rock, Rebellion Brewing sports a half dozen year-round brews on their slate, and a dozen seasonals floating across the slate. A six of your favourites are ready for pickup, or you can get into a growler, even a keg. They’re here to make sure you’ve got tasty beer available every day and twice on Sunday. The Bunnyhug is a Vienna-style lager with warm, malty tones that will warm you up no matter the temperature or the circumstance. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to a year.
Pours a warm, deep, golden honey colour with clear body and medium carbonation. A thick, pillow head of bubbly white foam rests on top of the glass.
Quite a mild aroma to this beer, you’ll pick up the slightly toasted wheat aroma of the malt. A faint aroma of caramel and spice wafts out of it but it is difficult to hold it.
The malt comes through strong with a toasted wheat flavour but it also mixes with a slightly funky, yeasty taste. But that yeast mostly comes through in a slightly earthy, leathery taste without the usual snap on the tongue. Taste comes and goes with speed, so you’ll need to let it rest on the tongue a moment to really extract flavour. Quite mild and easy to drink.
Any pub food with a bit of cheese on it and perhaps some cured meat would complement this beer.
