Coming out of the gate hot in 2016, Dorchester Brewing Company immediately began production in a 30,000 sq. foot facility, with the intention of putting their tasty wares in all the local pubs and bars as soon as possible. In the span of six years, Dorchester Brewing expanded their tap room into a full-sized restaurant and greenhouse tap room. A place to relax and feel a warm, inviting atmosphere with a few pints. And at that same time they’ve moved from their home turf out into the eastern United States and now up into Canada. With 18 beers on their slate, there’s plenty to sample from these Boston brewmasters. The Galaxy Lights is a session New England IPA - easy on the alcohol and not too aggressive on the hoppy IPA profile. Delicate and tasty tropical fruit flavour with a balanced hop profile. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed right away.
Pours a pale yellow colour with a hazy body and medium carbonation. A thick, frothy head of white foam out of the can quickly recedes to a thin cap.
Big, juicy tropical fruit aromas but they’re muddled together and tough to pull out. You’ll definitely smell some mango and pineapple, along with a touch of fresh green hops.
The fruit is even harder to distinguish on the palate but it’s fresh and sweet, without being cloying. The hops are also fairly laid back, sitting on the sidelines, balancing the fruit enough to keep it from getting out of control. This is a nice, fruit-forward IPA that lives up to the session moniker, it would be easy to down a few of these on a hot day. Finishes up with a slow fade on the taste and doesn’t leave your mouth too dry.
Something with an equally delicate flavour, like a simple charcuterie board, would go well without drowning out the taste.
