2 Crows is the brainchild of husband and wife team Mark and Kelly Huizink, and their partner/brewmaster Jeremy Taylor. Located in deep eastern Canada, 2 Crows is an open and welcoming brewery, looking to connect and enrich their community. But they’ve also aimed at enriching the world with their beer. And now they’re starting to bust out of the maritime scene, crossing the nation with their brew. More than two dozen beers have graced the slate, some hanging around throughout the year and a few seasonal or special brews. 2 Crows aims for locally sourced and locally conceived beers, taking classic styles and throwing the curve of the eastern maritime onto them. They’ve also taken a shot at hard seltzer and a few wine mashups. The Fantacity is a Belgian-style wheat beer with citrus zest and mild spices, all backed up by a lightly toasted grain malt. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to six months.
Pours a pale yellow colour with a fairly clear body and low carbonation. A fluffy pad of large bubbles rests on top of the glass.
Strong aroma of citrus zest, toasted grain malts, and a hop profile of earthy loam and floral notes.
The citrus notes stay strong from the opening on this beer, followed quickly by some spices, and the toasted grains. They shoot right through the grassy and earthy hops when they show up, but as the taste evolves on the palate you’ll get a bit of fruit and floral notes. All in all its a pretty subtle taste and it eases off to a dry finish with a kiss of herbal hoppiness.
A strong candidate for a cheese board with aged cheeses on it.
