Introduction

Brewing from the heart of Calgary, Alberta, Inner City Brewing produces a handful of craft beers. The Beltline is elevated by a small team dedicated to sustainable brewing focused on the thirsty passions of their customers. Just over five years of operating has seen Inner City claw through tough times and a saturated brewing market towards success. All styles are in their crosshairs, but so far their biggest brews have been based on classics - IPA and Lager. Inner City seeks to honour their location in the heart of Calgary with a flexible brewing system that allows for multiple ideas to be rolling off the line simultaneously. Hub & Spoke is a classic Amber lager, sporting a light-medium body with spicy and herbal characteristics. Purpose built to be a refreshing, quaffable beer with a crisp finish. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for up to six months.

How it looks

Pours a light amber colour with low carbonation and a clear body. A bubbly head of off-white, sticky foam rests on top of the beer.

How it smells

The aroma revolves around a toasted cereal malt with fresh bread notes. A touch of muddled fruitiness and fresh, herbal hopes that smell a touch dusty.

How it tastes

The flavour is a strong combination of the grainy malt, bitter leaves, and freshly cut grass. There’s a bit of a waxy taste as the overall flavour fades off. The body is fairly smooth but finishes up with an astringent quality. There’s a hint of hops in the aftertaste, lingering in the back of the throat.

Recommended food pairing

Anything grilled that has some fat on it, but not seasoned too much, otherwise it’ll overpower the beer.
