Introduction

Thin Man Brewery opened up its doors in 2016, bringing their tasty craft beer to the Western New York community. Thin Man aims to provide the beer lovers of Buffalo, and now abroad, with a diverse slate of beers that cross over current beer trends, cutting edge techniques, and old-world styles - aiming to provide an experience that may be eclectic but is also comprehensive of what craft beer can achieve. The crew at Thin Man currently run tasting rooms in Elmwood and Chandler with extensive taps offering up two dozen different beers (including a few honourable mentions from other local breweries down with the cause). Now their style is making its way up north, but can still be tricky to get your hands on in the west. The Sci-Fi Hamster Wheel is an American IPA, softer than the classic European IPA with a more expressive hop profile. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.

How it looks

Pours a very pale yellow colour with a hazy body and light carbonation. A thin cap of bone-white foam rests on top of the glass.

How it smells

Big, juicy tropical fruit aroma mixes with a floral hop aroma - fairly standard for IPA, but this has a richness that sets it apart.

How it tastes

More subtle than the aroma would lead you to expect - the fruits are flavourful but not sweet and the hops are well-formed but very laid back. The whole flavour experience is quick, soft, and pleasant. Once the fruit and floral elements fade away, the taste takes a turn toward a more bitter, leafy hop style and the finish is slightly dry.

Recommended food pairing

The soft hops of this IPA would pair up well with a Spicy Tuna roll.
