Introduction

Firing up the brewing machines in the mid 1990s, AleSmith came out of the gate quick like a bunny, winning awards in their third year on the brewing scene. By 2002 the operation had been taken over by well-known brewer Peter Zien and the start of the barrel aging era was kicked off. Year over year AleSmith has improved their game or grown the size of their operation to bring tasty beers to California and beyond. In 2015 the company had outgrown its original location and expanded into a 100,000 sq. ft. facility that helped bring their beers across the world. Now with 9 year-round beers on the slate and boatloads of seasonals and limited releases, AleSmith is a name you’ll come to know and enjoy. The San Diego .394 is an American-style pale ale - a light beer with character to it. With characteristics of a golden ale and a strong hop profile, the .394 is perfect for the ball game or the patio. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.

How it looks

Pours a golden colour with clear body and light carbonation. A thick head of bubbly foam pours from the can and rests on top.

How it smells

A fruit forward aroma that has a cut of citrus zest, warm sweet caramel tones, and a hop profile that’s slightly resinous and floral with loamy qualities.

How it tastes

The taste will surprise you, leaning into the fruit with a touch of sweetness. But as it warms on the palate, the fruity and sweet character is balanced by a pine and earth hop kick that opens up as it hits your taste buds. Well-balanced and supported by a straight flavour of cedar in the background, it finishes off a touch dry with a mineral aftertaste.

Recommended food pairing

Get yourself into a grilled hotdog with mustard and grilled onions.
