Lighthouse Brewing has been a family owned and operated brewery since it opened its doors in 1998. This makes it one of the oldest craft breweries in Victoria, and it was 2004 when they stretched out from providing great beers for local taps, to putting their work into cans and shipping it to the farthest reaches of the neighbourhood. Lighthouse prides itself on producing a locally sourced craft beer experience, respecting the land and materials of their community. Thrilling palates and doing so in a responsible way may not make for the sexiest business, but they’ve become a local legend by doing it right. Just over a dozen beers are on the slate and they run the gamut of styles - anything your palate may desire, you can find something to satisfy it from the Lighthouse. The Seven Seas is a session-style IPA, low in alcohol but big on flavour, meant for a tasty lunch but keeps you even-keeled to roll back to the office. Serves well at 8°C and should be cracked your next lunch hour.
Pours a golden colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A thin head pours from the can and slowly disappears.
Aroma is big on the hops, giving your nose a karate chop of muddled tropical fruits that are strong but not all that distinct. Then ops are vague and freshly green.
A lot of flavour coming on in for a session style IPA. The tropical fruit isn’t much clearer on the palate but it’s tasty and sweet. The hops are still a bit vague but they provide a touch of earthiness and bitterness that keeps the fruit from going hog-wild in the tasting. A thick feeling in the mouth that’s a touch dry. Finish is slightly bitter like an orange peel left in your mouth.
Something fatty and savoury would be a good match, so get into the BBQ but stick with dry rub, no sweet sauces.
