Introduction

Pile O’ Bones Brewing Company is battling inside the tight craft scene of Regina, Saskatchewan. A place with only a handful of serious names in the brewing business, but doing some interesting work. It was the decision of Glenn and Josh to start up Bones - after short careers working in the beer industry it was obvious that to do what they wanted, they would have to do it themselves. This is a town with a unique history and full of unique people, so it was not entirely out of the question to make a unique brewery. Their name is starting to get traction across the country and their beers can back it up. There are four original beers on their slate and more than a few specialties that show their face at different times of the year. The Space Cadet is a balanced IPA that’s been dry-hopped to give the flavour legs enough to get into the stratosphere. Centennial and Simcoe hops deliver fruitiness and resinous flavours. Serves well at 8°C and should be cracked pronto.

How it looks

Pours a copper colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A thick head of bubbly white foam pours from the can and hangs out for a while.

How it smells

Aromas of earthy, wet loam, floral and herbal hops, grapefruit flesh and zest, caramel, and a toasted bread malt that holds it all in place.

How it tastes

The hop character takes centre stage from the first sip - showing off a floral and herbal hop character that gets some legs as it warms up, a touch resinous and earthy. The grapefruit is hiding in the back and most of the sweetness has eased off, leaving just the sharp edge of the zest. The caramel and toasted bread malt give the beer a foundation as the hops ebb and flow. The whole thing is smooth and finishes off with a lingering hint of pine.
