When a local brewery packed up to move into a larger facility, Vince Marsaglia knew it was a sign. For years he’d been brewing small batch beers for others while the idea of an Abbey-style brewery rattled around in his mind. The time was now. The doors of the brewery opened in 2006 and a year later the main label - Port Brewing - was named the Small Brewery of the Year. The Lost Abbey label was set up to run alongside it, and focus on Belgian-inspired beers. A decade later the brewery, and the Lost Abbey label, has produced over 1000 unique beers and continues to be a top 10 brewery nationwide. Now it’s time for their tasty brews to make their way North and onto the Craft Club list. The Farmhouse is a rustic lager, a lighter version of Lost Abbey’s Avant Garde, gentle sweetness of orchard fruit with a touch of hop to balance it out. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for six months.
Pours a perfect golden colour with a clear body and low carbonation. A thin layer of bubbly white foam pours from the can.
A fruity, green-apple aroma is first on the nose, with a touch of peppery spice, and fresh, green vegetation that just been cut from the plant.
Sweet and snappy right off the bat. There’s a warm flavour of caramel and vanilla, combined with a slightly yeasty sizzle that makes this beer pleasing to drink and a little wild on the palate, keeping things interesting. The sweetness is off-set by a touch of bitter, leafy hops to keep things on balance. A very easy drinking beer and perfect for long summer evenings.
Great for the charcuterie board! Break out the fine cheese!
