Pocock Brewing Company is a family run craft-beer brewery in Santa Clarita, California. Started in 2013, Pocock has seen a slow but steady rise in popularity, eventually breaking out of the local scene and making itself known on the national craft level. With over 30 beers available from Pocock - some seasonally available and some full-timers - nearly every style is covered. But where they cover a style, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be a standard issue beer. Their selection includes banana cream pie beers, razor-sharp IPAs, Milk stouts, and fruit-infused ales. Their taproom is available to pull a fresh pint for your sampling, and most of their beers are available as a six to take home. The El Gallo Macho is a Mexican-style lager with a sharp, zesty body and a kick of lime zest to give you that feeling of laying out on a beautiful beach. Serves well at 6°C and can be cellared for six months.
Pours a deep, almost amber golden colour with a clear body and light carbonation. A thin wisp of head rings the glass.
Sweet and almost syrupy, with a big shot of lime zest and flesh to brighten up the aroma and give it a refreshing sensation.
Follows the classic style of a Mexican lager with a touch of bit, but clean flavour and the kick of lemon zest thrown in makes it refreshing. The zest also wakes up the taste buds a touch, really delivering all the flavour in a short period of time before it fades off, leaving a slightly sweet flavour and dry finish. Basic lager but worth sipping a few of them.
Anything protein that’s hot off the grill - chicken breast or flank steak, either would be tasty with fresh ‘slaw and potato salad.
