Introduction

North Carolina’s Hi-Wire Brewing has arrived at the Craft Club for another month, and their line-up keeps getting more and more interesting. Established in 2013, Hi-Wire has grown by leaps and bounds. From a two beer operation to the now multi-facility craft powerhouse. Their newly opened facility allows them the freedom to experiment with barrel-aged sour and wild ales, while maintaining their 8 beer line-up of year-round brews. Their recent success has also given Hi-Wire the chance to open up a program for charitable works around Ashville and the state. Improving the quality of North Carolina’s beer and local community - it doesn’t get much better. The Bohemian has the depth and body for those looking to quaff a couple at the pub but still get something interesting out of the deal. Solid malt and roasted elements. Serves well at 10°C and can cellar up to six months.

How it looks

Pours a deep amber, nearly brown, colour with a murky body and light carbonation. A thin ring of bubbly foam out of the can clings to the top but doesn’t bring much else.

How it smells

A nice combination of roasted grains, coffee notes, and snappy hops. They all work together to give it a fresh kick on a newly ground cup of coffee.

How it tastes

The flavour of this beer is tasty but seems unable to make up its mind where it's going. The roasted malt offers up some sweetness with just the right amount of bitter tint to keep it in check, but the hops seem to break in and demand your attention rather than fully supporting the rest of the tasting experience. There’s a smooth mouthfeel and overall a pleasant mouthful that cuts off pretty quick. Great for pairing up with a meal but a little lost on its own.

Recommended food pairing

Heavier lager but still easy to drink - dive into something savoury to complement the flavour - Poutine is a surefire winner.
