Introduction

The Hypha Project is a Canadian art and beer creating initiative that crosses the worlds of street art, music, and craft brewing. The goal is to create through the community, allowing the spirit of those who work and play in the artistic fabric to come through. This is not always a successful execution, but it creates an environment where interesting, unique, and surprising discoveries in art and tasty craft beer can emerge. All beers are brewed in partnership with local producers. The New Normal was produced in partnership with Slow Hand Beer Company in Vancouver, B.C. Slow Hand is a micro-brewing facility run by Kurtis Sheldan and Chris Carron. The New Normal is a dry-hopped IPA combining the best characteristics of the East and West coast craft brewing techniques. The result is big citrus and tropical fruit flavours and earthy hops. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.

How it looks

Pours a dirty blonde colour with a hazy body and medium carbonation. A bubbly head out of the can quickly recedes to a thin layer of bubbles on top of the glass.

How it smells

Big hits of the citrus and tropical fruit, but there’s a lot going on and it all tends to muddle together into a vague, sweet fruit blend, rather than standing on their own. There’s also the aroma of bread malt and zippy yeast.

How it tastes

The citrus and fruits are present, and thankfully they open up on the palate more than they did on the nose. Repeated lip smacking will tease out papaya, mango, pineapple, and more. The hops also open up as they warm on the tongue and the earthy flavour opens to a more subtle, flowery taste that’s quite pleasant. The bitterness is strong but well balanced among the other flavours, and the finish is snappy and dry.
