Introduction

It began when a couple friends brewed a beer together in 2005. It began in a single home-brewing kit. Family tradition had started the process but it was greater ambition and greater desire to share the tradition of the family with the community at large. So a couple friends started Common Roots Brewing Company. More than a few obstacles have stood in their path - money, naturally - but more dramatically the great obstacle was the original brewery burning to the ground. But that doesn’t stop tradition and with the community rallying behind them, Common Roots got back up and started all over again. Common has produced over 130 beers since opening their doors for commercial production in 2013, and now their beer is crossing oceans and continents. The Good Fortune is an IPA with a laid back attitude. Sporting the common flavours of tropical fruit, this beer has a mild hop profile, leaning on the sweetness and malt. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.

How it looks

Pours a straw yellow colour with a hazy body and light carbonation. A thin cap of bubbly bone-white foam rests on top.

How it smells

A strong impression of muddled tropical fruit up front, with a slightly herbal and flowery hop profile. A touch of pepper is hiding in the background.

How it tastes

The muddled tropical fruit is right up top but on the palate it has quite a bit more of the zest, giving it a slightly leafy and orange peel taste. The malt steps up on the tongue as it warms, throwing out toasted grain onto the palate. The hop is still flowery and remains in the background. The whole taste finishes off with a salinity reminiscent of river stone and a touch of astringency.

Recommended food pairing

A mild IPA like this would do well to have some vibrant flavour with a touch of spice - get a chicken Shawarma with banana peppers and some sriracha.
